TEHRAN, Dec. 20 (MNA) –Following days of violent clashes between protesters and security forces in Iraqi Kurdistan, the Change Movement (Gorran) and Kurdistan Islamic Group (KIG) declared their withdrawal from the KRG’s 8th cabinet on Wednesday.

The Change Movement announced on its official website that it has given up the Parliament speaker position as well.

The Change Movement says the current government in Iraqi Kurdistan has lost its legitimacy as it is unable to rule the region.

Four Gorran ministers were sacked in October 2015 by Barzani’s KDP leadership and the Change Movement speaker of the parliament was barred from entering the parliament when the party’s relations with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) collapsed.

The Kurdistan Islamic Group (KIG) also holds three seats in Iraqi parliament and 6 in the KRG parliament.

The Kurdish news outlets reported yesterday five protesters were killed and dozens more were injured during the protests.

People are angry about the continued delay in paying the public sector salaries, lack of public services and corruption.
