TEHRAN, Dec. 18 (MNA) – An Extraordinary Meeting of the PUIC Standing Committee on Palestine to address the recent US move on al-Quds (Jerusalem) has kicked off in Tehran, with participation of representatives from 11 Muslim countries.

Parliamentary delegations from Jordan, Algeria, Senegal, Turkey, Palestine, Morocco, Chad, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, and Mali are taking part in the extraordinary meeting that is currently underway in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Parliament speakers of Iran, Mali, and Iraq are slated to deliver speeches on the latest developments in Palestine in the wake of US President Donald Trump’s decision to relocate Washington’s embassy in Tel Aviv to al-Quds.

On December 6, Trump ordered the relocation of US embassy from to Jerusalem al-Quds, prompting negative reactions from almost all of Washington's allies, namely the European Union, the UK, Germany and France.

Iran has stressed that the move would escalate tension in the Middle East and further destabilize the region.

The extraordinary Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit held Dec. 13 in Istanbul, a week after Trump’s announcement, declared al-Quds as the capital of Palestine, rejected the US stance as "dangerous" and called on the international community to follow in its footsteps.
