Brigadier General Ramezan Sharif, IRGC’s Public Relations Department head made the remarks during his visit to Golestan province.
Referring to the importance of public opinion as a source of power in every country, Brigadier General Sharif said that “for example, when Americans wanted to attack Saddam and Iraq, they first prepared the public opinion and raised the issue of Iraqi chemical weapons, though there was no talk of the weapons after the war.”
The IRGC spokesman noted that "all the media in the world are owned by someone, there is no neutral media and each media works in the interest of its owners.”
“We need to increase our media literacy level if we deliver correct information,” he asserted.
"We should not stop young people and students when they have questions about the revolution and the reasons behind the Islamic revolution and it’s our fault that the younger generation know little about the revolution,” Brigadier General Sharif continued.
He stated that one of the characteristics of the media is turning the truth into lies and vice versa, adding “what took place after the 2009 Iranian presidential election not only caused financial costs but also targeted the reputation and efficiency of the Islamic Republic.”
"The US government did not let ISIL defeat to be at the top of the world news for more than a week and this defeat has been marginalized by Trump’s recent action in recognizing Al-Quds as the Occupying regime’s capital,” he pointed out.
IRGC official warned that the world's mainstream media are targeting the Islamic Revolution and its unique discourse, concluding “Iranian media must trust the people and give them correct information.”
