TEHRAN, Nov. 28 (MNA) – Istanbul’s Fifth International Bosphorus Film Festival gave away eight of its notable awards to three Iranian films including ‘Malaria’ by Shahbaiz and Majidi’s ‘Behind the Clouds’.

Iranian director Parviz Shahbazi’s film ‘Malaria’ swept up the awards for Best Script, Best Feature Film, Best Director and Best Actress at the closing ceremony of the Turkish film festival on November 27.

Saghar Ghanaat won the Best Actress award for her performance in ‘Malaria’.

‘Malaria’ recounts the story of a young woman who elopes with her boyfriend to Tehran. To cover her tracks, she tells her father she’s been kidnapped. With her family in hot pursuit, the two take up with a band of bohemian street musicians and form an elaborate plan for a more permanent escape.

Meanwhile, Majid Majidi’s ‘Behind the Clouds’ won the Best Fiction award and the Best Actor award for Ishaan Khattar at the event. Best Editing Award also went to Hassan Hassandoost for his work on 'Beyond the Clouds'.

‘Beyond the Clouds’ is a trilingual film revolving around the adoration of love, life and human relationships between a brother and sister which takes place the ever bustling city of Mumbai.

'Retouch' by Kaveh Mazaheri, which tells the tragic story of a young woman whose husband dies before her eyes, also won Best International Short Fiction Film Award at the Turkish event .

According to the Festival director Ogün Şanlıer, the festival received more than 3,400 international applications from 102 countries for the festival, and 150 films from 36 countries were shown.

The fifth edition of the festival was held on 17-26 Nov. 2017 in Istanbul, Turkey.
