TEHRAN, Nov. 09 (MNA) – Iranian First Vice-President Es’hagh Jahangiri has arrived in the Iraqi city of Najaf on Thursday to attend Arbaeen procession.

Heading a delegation of Iranian officials, Es’hagh Jahangiri travelled to Iraq to take part in the religious procession between the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala to pay tribute to Imam Hussein on Arbaeen, which marks forty days after the martyrdom anniversary of the highly-revered Shia Imam.

Jahangiri was welcomed by governor general of the province of Najaf upon arrival in the Iraqi city.

Large numbers of Iranians have traveled to Karbala to honor the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, the third Shia Imam. Arbaeen this year falls on November 09.
