TEHRAN, Oct. 28 (MNA) – Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Mahdi Sanaei emphasized the importance of Tehran-Moscow tie in current situation, pointing to the increase in academic cooperation between two countries.

Referring to the idea of establishing Iran-Russia Universities Union, an idea brought up in 2015, Mahdi Sanaei asserted the importance of Iran-Russia ties in current situation and said while relations between the two countries were based on a choice in the past, now, in current situation, it has turned into a relation of necessity.  Mehdi Sanaei made the remarks during a speech at 3rd Summit of Iran-Russia Top Universities.

Iran and Russia are experiencing common problems and threats including terrorism, extremism and drug smuggling and also encountering existing unilateralism in the international level, he said, adding that sustainable development is another concern shared by both countries which can be addressed by the universities of Iran and Russia.

The number of Iranian students educating in Russia universities are on a growth which along with increasing number of Iranian tourists visiting the country, have paved the ground for scientific and cultural cooperation, Iranian top diplomat added. 

Iran ambassador to Russia called on university authorities to expand academic capacitates for exchange of students and professors and asked for conclusion and signing of academic documents to strengthen academic relations.  

The 3rd summit of Iran-Russia top universities was held with presence of chancellors, managers and professors of 14 top universities, accompanied by Mahdi Sanaei, Iran’s Ambassador to Russia and Abbas Ahmad Akhoundi, Minister of Roads and Urban Development.
