TEHRAN, Oct. 25 (MNA) – Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad said Wed. recent victories in the region were against terrorism and all those trying to withdraw from international agreements such as Iran nuclear deal.

Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad made the remarks in a meeting with Leader’s Adviser Ali Akbar Velayati in Tehran on Wednesday, saying “my visit to Iran reflects the nature of the two countries’ relations in the wake of the recent victories in the region.”

He went on to add, “these victories were against those trying to exit international agreements such as Iran nuclear deal. Today, we all saw the world taking a stand against Donald Trump’s policies in clear opposition of his efforts in pressuring Iran and pursuing a petrodollar-based approach and supporting Israel’s policies.”

“The victories were also in line with fighting terrorism as well as backing Iran on its efforts to retake its legal right to the use of nuclear energy,” he added.

The Syrian diplomat thanked Iran for fighting terrorism alongside Syria, voicing his country’s support for preserving the national integrity of Iraq.

“If not for Iran’s support, we would have never been able to achieve such major victories against terrorism and in support of the Iraqi nation,” he stressed.

For his part, Velayati who also chairs the Strategic Research center at Iran’s Expediency Council, stressed that the Americans have been defeated in Iraq and Syria and their plans would continue to be foiled in the region.

“Zionists have lost hope of succeeding in their plots in the region,” Velayati added.
