Iranian foreign Minister Mohammaf Javad Zarif, who is visiting UN headquarters in New York to participate the 72nd General Assembly of the United Nations, met with Vladimir Ivanovich Voronkov, the Under-Secretary-General of the newly created United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office, on Tuesday.
Six days after the General Assembly resolution 71/291 was passed, on June 15, 2017, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres appointed the Russian veteran diplomat as the Head of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office.
In another meeting Mr. Zarif exchanged views with Stephen O’Brien, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs. The two senior figures conferred on the latest status of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, humanitarian situation in Yemen, and humanitarian reliefs for the Syrian civilians.
Also following his busy schedule of diplomatic meetings in New York, the Iranian top diplomat met with representatives attending Abrahamic Family Reunion, the chairman and members of the International Crisis Group and the International Institute for Strategic Studies. He addressed the meetings.
