TEHRAN, Sep. 25 (MNA) – The referendum to separate Kurdistan from Iraq, unauthorized by UN resolution, Iraqi parliament, and the neighbors of Iraq was finally held on Monday.

According to local news outlets, the poling stations have started closing in different cities across the north of Iraq, where Barezani is following the dream of his ancestors for forming the first Kurdish state.

When on Monday in the morning the ballot stations were opened to Kurds, Arabs, Turkmen, and Yazidis in different Kurdish and disputed areas in Iraq, the way the people welcomed the poll showed the opening wedge between different Kurdish parties. Local accounts indicate that despite huge turn-out in Erbil, Suleymaniyeh gave a cold face to the idea of independence.

Polling stations opened to voters at 8 a.m. local time (9:30 a.m. Tehran Time) and stations started to close their doors at 6 p.m. local time (7:30 p.m. Tehran Time) with some stations extending for an extra one hour grace. The first results should be known within 72 hours.
