“The Islamic Republic of Iran has held since the very beginning that solving the crisis in Syria has no way other than political settlement,” reiterated Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Thursday in New York.
The Iranian top diplomat made the remark during the meeting on Syria, held on an initiative by the EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
“Good progress has been made in the course of the last year to prevent more straight encounters in Syria,” asserted the Iranian chief diplomat, “according to the most recent agreement reached in Astana, now international observers can supervise the areas of conflict and their presence will not only decrease the tensions but also ease the delivery of humanitarian aids.”
“We still believe that political settlement in line with the principles delineated in UN resolution 2254 is the only way to put an end to this humanitarian nightmare,” reiterated Mr. Zarif, “To get out of the crisis, a government responsible to hold new elections in this country is needed.”
