TEHRAN, Sep. 18 (MNA) – Iranian officials Bahram Ghasemi, Ali Larijani and Ali Akbar Velayati extended their congratulations to Iranian volleyball players for finishing third place at FIVB Volleyball Men's World Grand Champions Cup.

In their message forwarded following the victory of Iranian men's volleyball team over France, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Senior Adviser to Iran's Leader Ali Akbar Velayati congratulated the players, the national team’s crew, the sports community and the people of Iran on winning the first ever world medal by Iran’s national volleyball team.

They maintained that defeating such globally powerful teams like Italy, the US and France signifies the high capacity and merit of the country’s youth.

In a breath-taking match on Sunday, volleyball outfit of Iran defeated French opponents in a 3-2 win and finished third place to scoop a bronze medal at the international competitions.

The Iranian team had scored four wins against Japan, the US, Italy and France and conceded defeat to Brazil, which won the championship title at the event. Italy finished second place.
