Ali Akbar Velayati, Head of Strategic Research Center, touched upon the referendum on independence of the Iraqi Kurdistan saying “the request was rejected by the legitimate government of Iraq and by majority of Iraqi Kurds who are after a unified Iraq.”
“Any move, consciously or unknowingly, towards independence of a part of Iraq or any other country in the region will be opposed by the Islamic Republic of Iran who is an ally of Iraq and sees eye to eye with the Iraqi government,” he continued.
Leader’s advisor in international affairs went on to note that if division of countries and independence of various ethnic groups begin in the region, there will be no end to the process which will mainly benefit colonizer, the US and the Zionist regime in particular.
Therefore, Islamic countries stand against any sort of ethnic separation in every corner of the region since majority of people disagree with the move which proves detrimental to the security of the region.
