TEHRAN, Sep. 13 (MNA) – Deputy FM Ebrahim Rahimpour said Wed. that Iran intends to send a 100 ton shipment of humanitarian aid to help resolve the situation of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Oceania affairs, Ebrahim Rahimpour, made the remarks at Wednesday session of Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, adding “we hope that the some 100-ton relief supply for the oppressed people of Rohingya will arrive in Myanmar on Thursday night or Friday and delievered into the right hands.”

He went on to add that Iran plans to build a field hospital in Rakhine State and station a number of doctors there to tend to the injured. In addition, Iranian Red Crescent Society will also set up a camp in the region.

Rahimpour maintained that Iran is in talks with authorities of Thailand as Iran’s accreditation in Myanmar, as well as with Bangladesh as the country receiving tens of thousand Rohingya refugees fleeing from violence. 

"Iran’s support of Rohingya Muslims who are not Shia negates claims that the Islamic Republic only lends support to Shia Muslims," Rahimpour siad, adding “Iran supports the oppressed people of Rohingya regardless of their religion."

According to the Iranian deputy foreign minister, the groundwork has been laid to send humanitarian aids to the people of Myanmar and a delegation will be sent to the affected region in order to set up camps for the Red Crescent and establish a field hospital there.
