TEHRAN, Aug. 22 (MNA) – National Iranian volleyball team secured a firm victory in their third encounter at FIVB Volleyball Boy’s U19 World Championship by securing straight-sets win against Chinese rivals.

The Iranian squad quelled china in three straight sets (25-23, 25-18, 25-21) thanks to its powerful defense. Monday’s match at Isa City Sports Hall marked the third win for Iran in Pool D of competition.

Morteza Sharifi and Porya Yali scored 14 points each, while captain Amirhossein Esfandiar netted another 10 points for three of Iran’s players to chuck-up double-digit scores in the eye-catching match.

Outfit of the Persian side against China comprised Mahdi Jelveh, Amirhossein Toukhteh, Amir Mohammad Falahatkhah, Morteza Sharifi, Amirhossein Esfandiar, Porya Vali as well as Mohammadreza Hazratpour.

“China played differently today, they played even better compared to their earlier matches. The quality of the match was at such a high level. This situation was very important for us and I am happy to win. China had too much motivation for this match. They did not play bad, we just played better than they did,” Iran coach Reza Vakili Farjad said post match.

In their fourth showdown in the preliminary stage of the tournament, Iranian volleyball players will meet Czech Republic.

The tournament is being hosted by Bahrain in the cities of Riffa and Isa Town from 18 to 27 August 2017. A total of 20 teams are competing in the tournament.
