At the meeting, Jaberi Ansari presented a report on the Islamic Republic’s efforts in interaction with other partners at Astana peace talks to end the Syrian war, saying the solution needed to resolve the Syrian crisis needs the help of Lebanon and other countries in the region.
Jaberi Ansari also expressed his hope that the cooperation between Iran and Lebanon Foreign Ministries would set the plans for the forthcoming visit of Lebanese President Michel Aoun to Tehran so that it would be the beginning of the expansion of relations between the two countries in all areas, especially in political and economic fields.
Lebanon's Foreign Minister Gibran Bassil also thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for supporting Lebanon in confronting terrorism, saying the cease-fire and the creation of tension-reduced areas in Syria, as part of Astana process, would help Lebanon on the way towards victory over terrorism and escape the heavy burden of the Syrian crisis.
The two sides emphasized the need for deepening bilateral relations and the continuation of mutual and regional dialogue and consultation.
Jaberi Ansari, who arrived in Beirut on Monday for a three-day visit, also held talks with other high-ranking Lebanese officials, including Lebanon’s President Michel Aoun and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.
