Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi made the remarks in an interview with IRIB on Wednesday, adding “our missile policy is based on deterrence and it will be certainly used for promoting peace and security in the region.”
“This is the Islamic Republic’s irreplaceable policy,” Ghasemi stressed. “We will not allow other countries to decide for our military programs. We will continue our policies with no particular concern whatsoever.”
Ghasemi deemed US move to slap sanctions on Iran a “hostile, discriminatory, unacceptable and unjustifiable” measure, adding “it is ultimately an attempt to undermine the multilateral and international nuclear agreement dubbed JCPOA.”
“Since the US could not stop Iran from re-engaging with the world and benefiting from the JCPOA despite all of Washington’s lack of commitment, the US started to create a negative atmosphere against Iran to reduce the positive impacts of the nuclear deal,” he added.
Ghasemi went on to stress that Iran would make necessary decisions at the appropriate time to respond to US hostile moves.
He further noted that accusing Iran of sponsoring terrorism is in line with US double standards; “US behavior toward our region should not come as a surprise, since it seems that they are essentially against the establishment of stability, peace and economic development in the Middle East and use terrorists to create tension and numerous conflicts in the region.”
