TEHRAN, Jul. 23 (MNA) – Leader’s senior adviser Ali Akbar Velayati said Iran counted on China’s international support for goals pursued by the Syrian government and people.

During a meeting with China's Special Envoy for Syria Xie Xiaoyan, Head of the Strategic Research Center Ali Akbar Velayati touched upon age-old history of ties between Tehran and Beijing asserting “exchanging views on bilateral, regional and international issues is a natural occurrence and existing relations will hopefully experience further development.”

Referring to the growth in collaborations between the two sides, the official reiterated that regional cooperation between Iran and China had to match up with their bilateral ties.

Velayati praised China’s position on Syria and the West Asian region saying “we count on the international support of China for the objectives of the Syrian government and people.”

"Cooperation in the Syrian case creates several capacities in the area of bilateral cooperation,” he continued.

Ali Akbar Velayati noted that the so-called international coalition, led by the US and some reactionary states of the region, has always led to strengthening of the Resistance Front.

He later said measures by enemies have helped to strengthen the terrorists, although, in view of the existing resistance, not only did the breakdown of Syria fail, but also the legitimate government and people of Syria became far more powerful than the past, and that Americans were unsuccessful in achieving their goals.

He said, there was a time when Iran remained as the only supporter of Syria, but today, even some Western countries have made changes in their previous positions, which is the right path to counter terrorism.
