Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) on Tuesday in Tehran, Ali Larijani said “following the remarkable triumph, position of Iraq has been upgraded much as compared to the past and the region now counts on its power though caution needs to be exercised against naughtiness of some countries who are certainly unhappy with the new conditions.
“He urged the Iraqi side to pay due attention to rebuilding of the country since the good population and oil facilities of Iraq can lead to economic development,” he underlined.
He said division in Iraq could prove destructive emphasizing that enemies are after the plan to split Iraq which will definitely lead to further tensions and elimination of all current achievements.
Speaker of the Iranian Parliament went on to state that, due to several difficulties, the Iraqi government has failed to fulfill all demands of different ethnic groups inside the country though notable achievements have been obtained by PUK after collapse of Saddam Hossein’s rule.
Larijani, while pointing to condition of Kurds in other countries, said what you have in Iraq, including school, university and above all an autonomous region, is invaluable.
"Shias and Sunnis in Iraq have always enjoyed close-knit ties and the two sides need to prevent some differences that exist throughout the world from endanger their relationship, because maintaining the security of the country should remain the top priority,” he asserted.
Later, a member of the PUK delegation extended condolences over the terrorist incident in the Iranian Parliament saying “Islamic Republic of Iran has always backed Iraqi people, Kurds in particular, and we hope cooperation will further develop between the two sides given the huge amount of development in the region.”
“Our brothers in Iran offered assistance in eliminating terrorists inside the Iraqi territory which thwarted several malicious plots by those who were seeking to carry out massive attacks in both countries,” he continued.
Another member of the Patriotic Union of Iraqi Kurdistan said pointed to the need to keep an eye on the future of the region underscoring “we have always expected the Iraqi government to equally distribute facilities among all people and respect demands of the Kurds.”
