TEHRAN, Jul. 19 (MNA) – The first encounter of Iran national basketball team at the third Atlas Basketball Challenge ended with a last-gasp win over Ukrainian rivals.

The Iranian national basketball squad had departed for the ancient city of Suzhou, China after being invited by the Chinese Basketball Association to attend the third Atlas Basketball Challenge to be held on 18 – 23 July, 2017.

On the opening day of the tournament, Persian basketballers pulled out a 78-68 victory over Ukraine. The win came for the Iranian side during the overtime since the score tied at 64 at the end of regulation play.

Basketball players of Iran are scheduled to take up Canada in their second match in the preliminary stage of the international sportive event.

Iran has drawn group A of the challenge along with FWC 2019 host China, Belarus and Ukraine while Group B comprises Qatar, Australia, Lithuania and the United States.

The July championship comprises of eight teams who will play over 6 days at the Suzhou Sports Centre and the Dushu Lake Arena.
