TEHRAN, May 22 (MNA) – Iranian and Turkish deputy foreign ministers Rahimpour and Sedat Ünal met in Tehran on Sun. to discuss ways for expansion of bilateral and regional cooperation.

During the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Oceania Affairs, Ebrahim Rahimpour, and his Turkish counterpart Sedat Ünal, the representative of the guarantor state Turkey to Astana process, highlighted the need for closer cooperation in various political, economic, security and cultural fields.

The sides further discussed the holding of a joint economic commission’s meeting in Tehran in the near future, and called for an effective cooperation for combating terrorism and various kinds of trafficking, including human trafficking.

Ünal expressed his felicitations over the holding of Iran’s presidential elections on Friday, adding “what took place in Tehran was a spectacular display of democracy, and the high voter turnout indicates the firm resolve of the Iranian people for making decisions about the future of their country.”

Rahimpour, for his part, felicitated the successful holding of Turkish constitutional referendum in April, stressing that the Islamic Republic attaches great respect to the decision and resolve of Turkish people.
