The contract was signed Sunday between the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran and a Chinese company at the Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the International Organizations in Vienna.
The signing of the contract is considered as a turning point in the process of redesigning and modernization of Arak Heavy Water Reactor, as well as an important part of the Iran nuclear deal, dubbed JCPOA.
Under the contract, the Chinese side will review and finally validate in terms of compliance with international safety standards the new design of Arak Reactor done by Iranian nuclear experts.
The initial designing stage was completed by Iranian experts by mid-March, and copies of documents compiled by the Iranian side which are highly important for the next stage will be handed to the Chinese side.
The initial agreements on the redesign contract have been reached in Beijing about two weeks ago.
The contract will serve as an introduction for more comprehensive agreements that will be signed for the completion and implementation of the 40-megawatt Arak reactor.
