TEHRAN, Apr. 22 (MNA) – National Iranian weightlifting team will leave Tehran for the Turkman capital on Monday in order to attend the 2017 Senior Asian Championship.

The 2017 AWF Asian Weightlifting Championships will kick off on April 23 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan and come to an end on April 29.

Accordingly, the Iranian squad will depart of Turkmenistan on Monday to take part at the prestigious event attended by Asian weightlifting families.

Iran’s hopes are pinned on Jaber Behrouzi (77kg) Saleh Cheraghi and Morteza Biglari (85kg), Seyed Ayoub Mousavi (94kg), Mohammadreza Barari and Ali Hashemi (105kg) as well as Ramin Rabiei and Homayun Teimouri (+105kg).

The Asian Weightlifting Championships is a weightlifting championship organised by the Asian Weightlifting Federation for competitors from the Asian countries. It has been held since 1971 for men and 1988 for women. In 2008 the championships provided the official qualification for Asian competitors in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
