The fourth edition of Islamic Solidarity Games will be competed in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku through May 08-22 under the motto of ‘Solidarity is our strength’.
The Iranian national karate squad will comprise 10 athletes in individual kumite section as well as two athletes in the kata category.
Iran’s female outfit consists of Mahsa Afsaneh and Nasrin Dousti (-50kg), Taravat Khaksar (-55kg), Rozita Alipour (-61kg) as well as Behnoush Najafi and Mohadeseh Aghaei (-68kg).
The Persian sides hopes in male competitions are pinned on Abolfazl Shahrjerdi, Amir Mahdizadeh (-60kg), Saeid Ahmadi (-67kg), Ebrahim Hassanbeigi (75kg), Zabihollah Pourshib (-84kg) and Sajjad Ganjzadeh (+84kg).
In the previous edition of the sportive event, Iranian karate fighters had bagged 3 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals landing in the second place overall. Egyptians clinched the title while Azerbaijan stood on the third podium.
