BANGKOK, Mar. 25 (MNA) – Iran’s compound men's team was defeated by India and finished runner-up in the 2017 Asia Cup archery tournament currently being held in Bangkok, Thailand.

On Saturday, Iran’s compound men's archery team lost their final competition to India with only one point less, 231-230, during the 2017 Asia Cup, Stage II and World Games 2017 Wroclaw Archery Qualification currently underway in Thailand.

The team, composed of Majid Gheidi, Esmaeil Abedi, and Omid Taheri, had won against Myanmar and Singapore before losing to India. The defeat placed the Iranian compound men’s team at the runner-up.

In the women’s category, Iranian team finished fourth after losing to Chinese Taipei and Myanmar in the semifinals.

The silver medal obtained by the compound men’s team was the fourth medal won by the Iranian archers during the tournament. In the individual category, Esmaeil Abedi and Parisa Baratchi each snatched a gold medal, while the mixed pair of them won the bronze.

Meanwhile, Iran’s recurve men’s team was defeated in its first competition against Thailand 6-0 and was eliminated from the tournament. The women’s team will take on their rivals later today.

The 2017 Asia Cup-World Ranking Tournament, Stage II and World Games 2017 Wroclaw Archery Qualification kicked in Bangkok, Thailand, on March 19 and will wrap up on March 26.
