NEW YORK, Mar. 14 (MNA) – The Group of 77 + China backed up women stricken by poverty, violence and inequality, at the 61st session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).

On behalf of the organization, which is made up of 134 out of 193 UN member states, Ecuador -president- stated that such organization maintains its full pledge to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
As stated by the Ecuadorian ambassador to the United Nations, Horacio Sevilla, many women are still globally affected by poverty, inequality and violence, despite some progress achieved in recent years.
The diplomat highlighted the support of the G-77 for women and girls living in conflict-affected countries and those under foreign pressure, colonial administration and foreign occupation, including the Palestinian ones.
These are women who had been the target of unilateral coercive measures with economic, financial or commercial nature, contrary to the International Law and the UN Charter, he said.
Seville urged to seize upon 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, the Paris Climate Agreement, the Urban Agenda of the Habitat III Conference and other recent multilateral tools to empower women and move on gender equality.
She also highlighted the G-77 + China's viewpoint that women are an important factor for human progress, world peace and the protection of human rights.
In this regard, Seville regretted that women continue to be trapped in fair wages, pensions, health and education imbalances.
