The 12 entries are from China, Japan, Turkey, India, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Bangladesh, Singapore, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea, Afghanistan and Jordan. Three Iranian feature length movies will also vie for the golden Simorgh in the Eastern Vista section.
Under festival’s rules and regulations, the competing movies in the Eastern Vista will have a regional premiere, which means it will be the first time they will screen publicly in the Middle East and Central Asia.
The festival also features a Special Screenings section which includes 12 foreign and 3 Iranian films by some of the greatest talents including feature films by multi award-winning directors Terence Malik (US), Andrzei Wajda (Poland), Ken Loach (Britain), Cristian Mungiu (Romania), Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne (Belgium), Danis Tanovic (Bosnia), Francois Ozon (France), Simon Sono (Japan), Agnieszka Hollande (Poland), and Aki Kaurismaki (Finland), among others.
