Spokesperson of Egyptian Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said in a statement on Monday that De Mistura expressed his keenness on briefing Egypt on the exerted efforts in the framework of the preparations for Geneva talks as Egypt is an effective party of the Arab world and a current member of the UN Security Council.
The Egyptian Minister stressed Egypt’s full commitment to supporting any effort that aims at finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria as Egypt is interested in making the UN envoy’s mission a success.
Shukri reiterated the necessity that participants should be characterized with seriousness and goodwill for reaching the required political settlement to the crisis in Syria and stopping the bloodshed in Syria.
Earlier, De Mistura’s spokeswoman Yara Sharif said that the intra-Syria talks in Geneva on settling the crisis in Syria will start officially on February 23, noting that the UN envoy started sending official invitations to the participant delegations.
The last round of Geneva talks was halted on April 27, without achieving tangible outcomes.
