TEHRAN, Feb. 14 (MNA) – First oceanographic research vessel code-named "Persian Gulf Explorer" become operational in port city of Bandar Abbas on Tuesday.

Speaking during the ceremony, attended by Iran's Minister of Science Mohammad .Farhadi, head of Iranian National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science Nasser Hajizadeh said the vessel will kick off research career after delivery from the Marine Industries Organization of Iran.

Persian Gulf Explorer, a modern research vessel with 50 meters length, 10 meters width and 12 meters height, is capable of doing field research with full water and fuel for 45 day in the Persian Gulf, Sea of Oman and Northern Indian Ocean, having room for 27 people.

Hajizadeh noted that the first mission of Persian Gulf Probe is sampling and field measurement in the Persian Gulf.

“The vessel has the capability of remaining 40 days at sea and conduct offshore patrol for three thousand miles; it has a dynamic positioning system, sampling pump water with facilities, dry lab, wet lab, dry and wet labs, warehouse, refrigerator below zero degrees (-20 degrees Celsius), refrigerator above zero degrees (4 ° C) and compressor for air tools,” he added.
