TEHRAN, Feb. 09 (MNA) – In an address in Iranian southern province of Bushehr, Iran's VP for Science and Technology Affairs Sorena Sattari recounted that Iran has taken great steps toward knowledge-based economy.

“The knowledge-based economy of today is dependent on creative people with high education,” said Sorena Sattari, Iran’s Vice-President for Science and Technology, who is visiting the Iranian southern province of Bushehr, to the media on Thursday after offering congratulations on the occasion of the 38th anniversary of the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The official stressed that creating the environment to foster the new economy is a top priority.

Mr. Sattari boasted that President Rouhani’s administration has been very contributive to the development of science, technology, and knowledge-based economy in Iran. He maintained that Iran’s production of knowledge has had a desirable growth in 2015 and the laggings have been compensated.   

“One of things that contributed to the strengthening of domestic self-esteem and scientific growth in Iran was the anti-Iran sanctions which pushed us to use Iran-made products instead of foreign-made items,” highlighted the Iranian vice-president. “After the JCPOA and removal of sanctions we have witnessed new academic programs opened in Iranian universities, growth in number of bourses and some special majors of studies.”

Recounting that 2,950 knowledge-based companies are currently running in Iran, Mr. Sattari referred to 85,000 university students and 850 faculty councils in Iran as a great potential backing the boost of knowledge-based economy in Iran.
