Mr. Bahram Ghasemi told reporters that Kuwait had been a neighboring country and both countries had been in regular contact and exchanged opinions in regional as well as international developments; “one-day visit by Sheikh Sabah had been on agenda in the past and seeks to improve relations; the visit will address bilateral ties as well as the latest developments in the Middle East,” he added.
“Sheikh Sabah will also convey Kuwaiti Emir’s message to President Rouhani,” Ghasemi added. Sheikh Sabah’s visit to Tehran will last only for few hours and he will met Foreign Minister Javad Zarif. He will reportedly convey a Persian Gulf Cooperation Council's message to Tehran.
His visit to Iran takes place just a day after establishment of a NATO regional office in Kuwait on Tuesday as its first regional center in the Persian Gulf region which could be another issue to discuss in the meetings. Speaking in Kuwait City on Tuesday, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said he was 'proud' to inaugurate NATO's regional center in the Arabic state. On social media, he called the center's potential ‘enormous.’
