TEHRAN, Jan. 10 (MNA) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution made presence at University of Tehran Tue. morning and led the funeral prayer for Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani who died at 82 on Sunday.

Countless number of people have gathered in streets of Tehran around Tehran University to attend the funeral procession for the former president of Iran who was also chairman of the Expediency Council.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei performed the funeral prayers at Tehran University and crowds of people are now carrying Rafsanjani’s body towards south of Tehran.

Very many senior officials and authorities of the country have also taken part at the ceremony to pay final respects to the renowned cleric Ayatollah Hasehmi Rafsanjani including President Hassan Rouhani, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, and Head of the Judiciary Ayatollah Sadegh Amoli Larijani.

Other prominent officials present at the funeral are Minister of Intelligence Mahmoud Alavi, Iran’s Health Minister Hassan Hashemi, The first winner of Feb. 26 Parl. elections in Tehran Mohammad Reza Aref, IRGC Quds Force Commander Maj. Gen. Ghassem Soleimani, Second Deputy of the Parliament of Iran Ali Motahari.

Chairman of Iraqi National Coalition Ammar Hakim was also among international personalities who had attended the funeral ceremony for Ayatollah Rafsanjani.

Moreover, government ministers, lawmakers, top military commanders, members of the Expediency Council and the Assembly of Experts as well as a number of foreign ambassadors and dignitaries are present at the procession.

The body of late Rafsanajni is being carried towards the mausoleum of the late Founder of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khomeini and will rest there.

The Iranian government has announced three days of national mourning in honor of Ayatollah Rafsanjani.
