Bahram Ghasemi who was officially reacting to the resolution, said Saturday that the Islamic Republic of Iran would welcome any act which guaranteed rights of the Palestinians in international community and confronts expansionist policies of the Zionist regime; “the expansionist policies blatantly violates the international conventions, emphasized upon by the Islamic Republic of Iran; the rather belated resolution in the UN is welcomed as a step forward in restoring Palestinian rights, despite the right to veto Israel had enjoyed by virtue of being supported by the US in all resolutions; this is an indication that the international community had shown a degree of resolve to address the issue more effectively,” Ghasemi told the press.
FM spokesperson welcomed the rising international awareness of Israel’s true nature of an apartheid and occupations regime; “to solve Palestinian issue, strong will should address both sides: Palestinian rights and condemnation of Israel as ever-aggressive regime; we hope the international community especially the UN will take more practical steps in this path,” he concluded.
“The UN Security Council on Friday passed a resolution demanding that Israel cease Jewish settlement activity on Palestinian territory in a unanimous vote that passed when the United States abstained rather than using its veto as it has reliably done in the past,” wrote The Washington Post report, “the resolution declares settlements constructed on land Israel has occupied since the 1967 war, including in East Jerusalem, to have “no legal validity.” It said settlements threaten the viability of the two-state solution, and it urged Israelis and Palestinians to return to negotiations that will lead to two independent nations.”
