Bahram Ghasemi maintained that the reason for postponing the trip was Jahangiri’s busy schedule. The trip has been put off by Iran and the Turkish side has been informed of it.
“Deferments in political visits and on high levels can occur for various reasons,” Ghasemi added. “Due to President Rouhani’s upcoming tour to a number of neighboring countries and the subsequent amount of responsibilities and tasks the tour will put on the First Vice-President, it was decided that Mr. Jahangiri’s trip to Turkey be rescheduled to a more appropriate date.”
Jahangiri had been scheduled to visit Turkey on Monday and hold talks with senior Turkish officials on regional developments, particularly the Syrian and Iraqi situation, as well as expansion of bilateral cooperation.
Currently, Iran’s ICT Minister Mahmoud Vaezi is in Istanbul as the Iranian head of the two countries’ joint commission for cooperation.
Meanwhile, President Hassan Rouhani in a new round of regional tour will pay visits to Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan upon official invitation of his counterparts. The tour will kick off on Wednesday and conclude on Thursday.
Foreign ministers of Iran, Russia and Turkey are also slated for a trilateral meeting in Moscow on the Syrian situation on Dec. 20.
