Touching upon his meeting on Tuesday with members of Parliament Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy, Zarif said he answered the questions raised by MPs on JCPOA and US failure to commit its obligations under the multilateral accord.
Pointing to President Rouhani's directive to Foreign Ministry and AEOI on proper retaliatory response to ISA, Zarif said the letter is in relation to measures the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran must take on nuclear propulsion, which is a specialized issue beyond Foreign Ministry's authority.
He said, Iran's Foreign Ministry, for its part, has sent one letter to EU chief Federica Mogherini, leading to Iran-EU joint commission meeting on the sideline of UN General Assembly in New York last September.
The next letter dispatched when the US House of Representatives passed a bill to extend Iran Sanctions Act (ISA), Zarif noted, adding that JCPOA has envisaged a mechanism to follow up any breach of the context of the nuclear deal by either party.
Asked to elaborate Iran's position on implementation of ISA, Zarif underlined "as mentioned by President Rouhani, extension of ISA sanctions runs counter to the context of JCPOA and the Islamic Republic of Iran, in light of the executive order by the president, would take legal remedies and diplomatic initiatives against any act in violation to the accord.
