TEHRAN, Nov. 27 (MNA) – Iranian wrestlers only managed to bag one bronze medal in Greco-Roman bouts at Grand Prix Final in Azerbaijan.

The international wrestling tournament dubbed as the Golden Grand Prix Final was held in Baku on 24-26 November in memory of Azerbaijan's Heydar Aliyev. 

Of four Iranian representatives at the event, only Amir Hossein Hosseini (98kg) could stand on the third podium and scoop a bronze medal. 

Hosseini struck an off draw in the opening round while he later subdued Araz Hasanov of the host country 2-1 and secured a place in the semifinals. Meanwhile, the Iranian wrestler suffered a 1-4 defeat in the hands of the European bronze medalist Aliaksandr Hrabovik of Belarus and was led to the repechage round where he quelled Cuba's Reinier Montegagudo Romero bringing home Iran's only bronze medal. 

Competing at –66kg weight group, Mohammad Morad Elyasi of Iran lost to his Russian rival Artem Surkov in the qualification round while he later prevailed over an Azerbaijani wrestler 5-2 in the repechage round. Elyasi, however, suffered a 1-4 loss in the bronze medal match against South Korea's Giuk Chol to finish fifth overall. 

Also in Baku Sports Hall, Iranian GR wrestler Azim Garmsiri failed to finish his first encounter against Hungary's Balint Korpasi and failed to remain in the course of competition. 

Mohammadali Geraei, who represented Iran at 75-kilogram weight category failed to breeze past Zurabi Datunashvili of Georgia and bid farewell to the Greco-Roman championship bouts at GGP Final.
