The Director of Refractive Errors Research Center at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Dr. Hadi Ostadi Moghadam, said the research facility aims to identify eye problems in people with dyslexia or thalassemia.
“Recently, we passed the preliminary stages of conducting research on ‘making materials suitable for intraocular contact lenses’, and once we obtain the desired results, we will further extend this success,” he added.
He went on to maintain that the research facility managed to win the first to third place in the world in conducting epidemiological studies on refractive errors of eyesight in the last three years; “this achievement placed Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in the third place right after the US and Australia,” he said.
Refractive errors are optical imperfections that prevent the eye from properly focusing light, causing blurred vision.
“So far, about 50 papers have been published in this facility, of which 64% are ISI, in other words, about 35 of these papers are globally recognized,” he said.
He went on to add that the research facility has patented two inventions in the past few years, including the recent electronic device and vision measuring glasses built by variable focus lenses in 2013.
