TEHRAN, Nov. 15 (MNA) – Iranian representatives at super heavyweight category of 2016 Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships have clinched one gold and one silver medal.

Ali Davoudi and Mohammadreza Roshani of Iran managed to land in the first and second places at the super heavyweight division of the sportive event underway in Japan.

The two Iranian lifters offered amazing sportive performances against contestants who came from Uzbekistan, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Chinese Taipei in the Japanese capital of Tokyo.

Competing at +94kg weight category, Iran’s lifter Alireza Davoudi pulled 166 kilos above his head in the second attempt to earn the gold medal for snatch. He ordered 171 kilograms for his third attempt though he made no effort to lift it given that his gold medal had been secured with the 166kg weight.

In the clean and jerk, Davoudi lifted 185 kilos in his first attempt to earn to climb to the top position in the ranking table though he later overcame the 200-kilogram weight finish with a total of 366 kilos.

Iran’s other athletes in the super heavyweight division Mohammadreza Roshani did a best of 152 kilograms in the snatch to bring home a silver medal. He later scooped the silver in clean and jerk and stood on the second podium with an aggregate total of 327 kilos.

In the same category, a weightlifter from Chinese Taipei did a total of 327 kilograms to fall in the third place behind the two Iranian lifters.

The 2016 Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championships opened in Tokyo on November 11, and will finish on November 15.
