TEHRAN, Nov. 06 (MNA) – Iran’s Gachsaran Oil and Gas handball club only managed to land fourth at 2016 Asian Men’s Club League Championship in Jordan.

Iran’s Gachsaran Oil and Gas handball club, who had failed to secure tickets to the finals of the tournament, faced Lekhwiya handball team of Qatar in a bronze medal match.

The powerhouse Qatari representative handed Iranian handball players a 21-31 defeat for the Persians to finish fourth overall.

Accordingly, Lekhwiya of Qatar stood on the third podium while Iran’s Gachsaran Oil and Gas handball club landed in the fourth place.

The Iranian outfit had pulled out a victory over Jordan’s al-Ahli, drew against Al Jazira of UAE and conceded a defeat against Qatar’s El Jaish to enter the semifinals as the second best team in Group A.

Meanwhile, the Persians had suffered a defeat in the hands of Saudi Arabia’s Al-Noor in a semifinal showdown.

In the 5th place match, Al Jazira (UAE) defeated the hosts, Jordanian Al Ahli, while Al Ahli from Bahrain finished 7th, following an easy win over Ahli Sidab from Oman.

The 19th edition of Asian Men’s Club League Championship kicked off in Amman, Jordan, on October 29 and lasted until November 5, 2016.
