TEHRAN, Nov. 04 (MNA) – For all his contribution to mutual understanding between Iranian and Japanese nations and academic research on quakes, Iranian Professor Hassani, was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun.

Professor Nemat Hassani, the Head of Civil Engineering Department at Shahid Beheshti University of Tehran, received the prestigious award from the Emperor of Japan on Thursday at a conferment Ceremony held at Japanese embassy to Tehran.

The conferral of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette upon Professor Nemat Hassani was in recognition of his invaluable contribution to earthquake studies in Japan and promoting mutual understanding between Iran and Japan.

At the time of the Great Hanshin earthquake, or Kobe earthquake, on January 17, 1995, Professor Hassani was doing his PhD at Kobe University and he never left the area after the earthquake and continued his research till the time he garnered his PhD in 1997. After that he has been many times invited to the Japanese university as a visiting lecturer.
