TEHRAN, Oct. 31 (MNA) – Iranian freestylers won the title with eight medals while the Greco-Roman outfit snatched one silver and four bronze medals to finish third at the 12th World University Wrestling Championship in Turkey.

Iranian wrestlers earned a total of five medals, one silver and three bronze, to stand on the third podium at the event overall. Turkey won the title followed by Belarus and Iran who stood in .the second and third places.

Mohammadreza Geraei (66kg), Rasoul Garmsiri (75kg) as well as Amir Ghasem Monjazi (130kg) brought home three bronze medals while Farshad Isvand, competing at 71kg weight category, secured the only silver medal for the Iranian side.

Meanwhile, Iranian freestylers became champions at the international sportive event after winning five gold and three bronze medals.

Younes Sarmasti (57kg), Reza Afzali (74kg), Mohammad Javad Ebrahimi (86kg), Amir Mohammadi (97kg) and Seyed Reza Mousavi (125kg) all stood on top of the podium while Mehran Nasiri (61kg), MEysam Heidari (65kg) and Hamed Rashidi (70kg) won bronze medals for Iran’s freestyle team to come first overall with a total of 74 points.

Russian and Turkish freestyle squads fell behind Iran in second and third places, respectively.

The international sportive event was hosted by Hittite University in Turkey’s Çorum from October 25 to October 30.
