That is the balance of the first day of the final evacuation of the camp, an operation of great magnitude for which 1,250 policemen are mobilized.
The French Interior Minister said that of the people transferred, 1,918 are elderly people, while 400 minors who remained in the agglomeration without parents or relatives were taken to a special center.
According to Cazeneuve, in the field of Calais, there were 1,291 children and adolescents in these conditions, whom will receive a special treatment.
On the other hand, United Kingdom granted receive to all the minors that have some family in British soil, a decision that was welcomed by the French authorities, according to the Minister. He also announced that London will allocate 40 million euros to strengthen its controls at the Calais border and to ensure that the dismantling of the field is final.
That site is one of the epicenters of the immigration crisis in France and in Europe, as it accumulated thousands of foreigners that sought arrive to the United Kingdom through the Eurotunnel, which crosses the French channel. As a result of the growing complaints of the local population and of xenophobic sectors, at the beginning of September the Government announced the intention of dismantle the agglomeration before the end of year.
French President François Hollande headed a meeting in the Ministry of the Interior to point out the details of the march of the operation.
However, organizations working in the field warned about potential problems in the coming days as about two thousand they refuse to leave Calais, since they persist in their intention to reach the United Kingdom.
"For the moment everything is going well because they are people who eagerly starting (...), but are concerned about what will happen at the end of the week when comes the turn of those who don't want to go because its goal is still to arrive in England", explained Christian Salome, President of an association of assistance to migrants. On the other hand, also there are concerns on the host in the centers enabled by the government because in several locations the population rejects to open the doors to the foreign.
