TEHRAN, Oct. 03 (MNA) – Iranian athletes bagged 14 colorful medals though they only ranked eighth overall at the 2016 WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Peru.

Attracting 762 taekwondo practitioners from 52 world countries, the tenth edition of the sportive event had kicked off on Thursday September 29 and came to an end with South Korea winning the title. National teams of Turkey, the US and China came second to fourth respectively.

The Iranian poosae squad earned two gold, three silver and nine bronze medals in both men’s and women’s sections to finish in the eighth place.

Poomsae practitioners of Iran were absent in the ninth edition of the tournament in 2014 while they had ranked fourth in the eighth edition and finished vice-champion in 2012.

The 10th WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships got underway in Lima, Peru on September 29 with the world’s best athletes from seven divisions across five age categories competing for gold.
