Hossein Jaberi Ansari, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs, who traveled to South Africa for attending the 7th session of the two countries’ joint political committee, held a meeting with South Africa's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.
During the meeting, the Iranian diplomat presented a report on the results of the political committee’s meeting, and expressed the Islamic Republic’s full readiness to further develop relations with South Africa in all areas.
Mashabane, for her part, expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of President Jacob Zuma’s visit to Iran in 2015, and discussed plans for the visit of Iranian President Rouhani to her country. The two sides also voiced readiness for holding the 13th Iran-South Africa Joint Economic Commission prior to President Rouhani’s visit.
Jaberi Ansari noted the various achievements of the 7th political committee’s meeting including agreement on holding regular joint political committee’s meetings every six months, drawing up a roadmap for short-term relations and economic cooperation, as well as prioritizing the facilitation of banking, oil and transport cooperation between the two countries.
“We will make serious efforts toward the realization of the wills of the two countries’ leaders for the expansion of bilateral relations in all areas,” he stressed.
The two sides further conferred on ways to strengthen economic relations and exchanged views on joint cooperation in security areas and the fight against terrorism.
