Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi reacted to the rash remarks made by French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault at the recent UN Security Council’s meeting on Syria as well as his comments in an interview with Libération newspaper, adding “regrettably, the remarks by the French foreign minister, despite his knowledge of the developments in the region and the world, are unrealistic and farfetched.”
Jean-Marc Ayrault on Sunday called on Russia and Iran to halt their strategy that has led to a “deadlock” in the Syrian crisis; “Otherwise, Russia and Iran will be complicit in war crimes committed in Aleppo,” he said at the urgent UN meeting.
“Iran’s spiritual influence in regional countries is employed in the fight against malicious terrorists whose atrocities are actually quite well known to certain Western countries, particularly France,” Ghasemi added.
“They should have come to this basic understanding by now that they should not ask Iran to use this influence against the forefront fighters of terrorism in the world,” he said.
Ghasemi went on to advice the French foreign minister to refrain from expressing any inappropriate remarks, adding “I call on him to instead study the history of regional developments in recent decades, particularly the role of certain then leaders of France in supporting war criminals such as Saddam Hussein and the arming of his aggressive regime during the Imposed War against Iran and the occupation of Kuwait.”
“All these wars and conflicts will no doubt present a clear picture of the real war criminals and today’s actual sponsors of terrorism and violence in the region and the world,” he added.
