TEHRAN, Sep. 25 (MNA) – President Hassan Rouhani said Sun. developing relations with African countries, including Kenya, is a key foreign policy principle for Iran and Tehran welcomes boosting economic ties with Nairobi.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with the Speaker of Kenya’s National Assembly Justin Muturi on Sunday in Tehran.

“Kenya is a friendly country to Iran in Africa and the post-JCPOA situation and the lift of sanctions have further provided the appropriate conditions for the development of ties between the two countries,” said President Rouhani.

Rouhani then referred to the many technical and engineering achievements of Iran in the past few years, adding “Tehran is ready to participate in the implementation and advancement of Kenya’s projects in relation to electricity, road and dam construction, and energy.

“The Kenyan government can provide the required means for the active presence of Iranian private sector’s in Kenya,” he added.

The Iranian President further highlighted the need for closer academic, scientific and technology cooperation between the two countries, adding “further parliamentary relations between Tehran and Nairobi can help the countries to achieve higher level of cooperation in these fields.”

Rouhani then touched upon the issue of terrorism as a scourge threating all countries across the world, saying “Iran and Kenya can cooperate at regional and international levels on this combating terrorism.”

Justin Muturi, for his part, stressed that Kenya is determined to expand relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran in all fields, as further facilitated by the implementation of Iran’s nuclear deal.

“Iran has had good progress in technical and engineering fields and the government of Kenya is ready to provide Iranian companies with the required resources and conditions to participate in our projects,” he added.
