TEHRAN, Sep. 24 (MNA) – Iran’s Parliament speaker has announced that Iran and Kenya both hold serious determination to confront terrorism.

Speaking at a joint press meeting with his Kenyan counterpart Justin Bedan Njoka Muturi in Tehran, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Ali Larijani said Iran holds a positive outlook towards expansion of ties with Kenya and the current visit marks a precious opportunity to boost bilateral relations.

He underlined that venues for increasing parliamentary relations were discussed at the joint meeting; “Iran and Kenya can escalate economic collaborations in various arenas like agriculture, medical equipment, as well as oil, gas and petrochemicals.”

Larijani deemed terrorism as yet another important issue which was dealt with at the meeting saying “both countries hold concerns over terrorist crises ongoing in the Middle East and in East of Africa as Kenya is having conflicts with certain terrorist groups.”

The official expressed hope that further venues will emerge for cooperation between Tehran and Nairobi underscoring “the visit of the Kenyan Parliament Speaker will hopefully mark a turning point in bilateral relations.”

Justin Bedan Njoka Muturi of Kenya, for his part, appreciated the hospitality of Iranian officials and nation stating “the talks emphasized strengthening of mutual friendly, economic and cultural relations.”

“Activation of Parliamentary Friendship Groups between Iran and Kenya were was also touched upon during the session,” he continued.

He noted that parliaments play a major role in improvement and development of bilateral and multilateral ties between states as well as that they help expand economic relations.

The Kenyan official went on to maintain that Iran’s Ali Larijani has officially been invited to make a visit to the East African country as one of the great wonders of the world.

He also announced his plan to travel to the historical city of Shiraz situated in southern Iran.
