TEHRAN, Sep. 20 (MNA) – After a two day visit to Havana and meeting with Cuban President Raul Castro, former President Fidel Castro, and a number of top officials of the Latin American country, President Rouhani left for New York on Tuesday.

President Hassan Rouhani of Islamic Republic of Iran, who paid a two day visit to Havana at the formal invitation of his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro, left the Caribbean island nation on Tuesday for New York where he will attend the 71st Regular Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

In Havana, President Rouhani had separate meetings with Cuban officials like President Raul Castro and his predecessor Fidel Castro in addition to sharing the table at joint meetings of his accompanying delegation with Cuban officials.

The two day stay of President Rouhani and his entourage of Iranian ministers and officials in Havana fruited into agreements for collaboration in the health, education and science sectors, as well as a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on banking.  

In his two day stay in New York, he will also hold several meetings with top foreign officials, religious leaders and political elites in addition to addressing the UNGA.

President Rouhani left Tehran on Friday September 16 for Venezuelan island of Margarita where he attended the 17th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit and handed over Iran’s rotating presidency of the NAM to Venezuela.

After Foreign Minister Zarif’s tour of Latin American countries in August which entailed Cuba, President Rouhani headed the second formal delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Cuba in a month with a bright prospect of expansion of bilateral ties.
