“Safeguarding the intangible heritage means strengthening the social system, the institute of family, and the public establishment,” said Alireza Paakfetrat, the Mayor of Shiraz on Thursday noon after signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Municipality of Shiraz and the Tehran ICH Centre of UNESCO (Regional Research Center for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage in West and Central Asia under the Auspices of UNESCO).
The mayor reiterated that municipality is ready to support all the measures which bolster Islamic and Iranian culture, rituals, and practices. He maintained that to have a healthy society the spirit of the society should be taken care of and spiritual health is dependent on consciousness about the rich of the past.
Then, Yadollah Parmoun, the Director of Tehran ICH Centre of UNESCO, for his part, recounted the areas of safeguarding intangible cultural heritage in 5 areas of oral texts, performance arts, traditional knowledge, rituals, and crafts.
“If we intend to conserve the body of the historic buildings and we have strategies to do it, we would achieve the goal by letting them in by their spirits,” highlighted the official of UNESCO.
