“Eight questions were posed by MPs that gave me the opportunity to attend the commission,” said Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, after attending the national security and foreign policy commission of Iran’s Parliament on Tuesday.
The chief diplomat stated that he answered the questions beyond what was asked and voiced hope that the positive atmosphere of cooperation between the ministry and the commission will continue.
“It is one of the rights of the MPs to ask questions,” asserted Zarif, “whether they get convinced or not, it gives the opportunity to discuss problems, while in my opinion all the questions were constructive.”
Zarif recounted that border water in the eastern provinces of Iran, the implementation of the JCPOA, the acts of the neighboring countries, Mina tragedy of September 2015 in Saudi Arabia, anti-Iran decedent terrorist group in France, and economic diplomacy of the Foreign Ministry were the areas of raised questions.
“For some questions written responses are needed and for those which I could not convince some MPs, I have to attend an open session of the Parliament,” said Mohammad Javad Zarif, “but most of the MPs got convinced with my responses.”
The top diplomat voiced content about the implementation of the JCPOA and asserted that the deal was successful in many areas while he contributed the success to the resistance undertaken by the nation. He maintained that he has a positive assessment in the areas of ‘so-called PMD’ and the limitations imposed on Iran’s nuclear program.
“About oil export, thanks to the efforts of oil ministry staff, the situation has returned to pre-sanctions era, and the revenues are being paid back,” articulated the chief of Iran’s Foreign Ministry; “about the implementation of the JCPOA, the Americans are lagging behind, that we hope the pressure made by Iran and the European parties of the deal would force the Americans to exercise their written commitments and be more active.”
