TEHRAN, Aug. 12 (MNA) – Iran’s national cadet football team defeated Albania to finish third in the 2016 Kazakhstan President Cup.

The Iranian squad faced Albanian rivals in their final encounter at the international U17 tournament in Shymkent where they came out victorious 2-nil.

Taha Shariati and Aref Mohammadalipour found the net the Persian side 35 and 65 minutes into the game, respectively.

The 9th edition of Kazakhstan President Cup started in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, on August 7, and will wrap up on August 13.

The Islamic Republic of Iran’s under-17 soccer team, who will return home on Saturday August 13, had been seeded in Group B with Azerbaijan, Russia and Tajikistan while Group A consisted of teams from Albania, Kazakhstan, Brazil and Kyrgyzstan.

Kazakhstan President Cup is an international U-17 football tournament, which is held annually under the supervision of the Football Federation of Kazakhstan and FIFA. The first edition of the sporting event was staged in April 2008.

The champions will receive a cash prize of 1,000 dollars, the runners-up and the third-place finishers will be awarded 6,000 and 4,000, respectively.
